tatto tongue

Tattoos are not only cool, but have a way of expressing who we are.  If you're thinking about getting one or just got one, you're probably wondering what do you do to make sure it heals correctly and doesn't get infected.
Do you keep it covered?  Or do you let it "breathe" ?  Do you put Neosporin on it?  How long will it take to heal?
I have 3 tattoos by different artists and each one had something different to say about the after care.  The following has worked best for me and others:
    1.  Keep tattoo covered for no more than 3 hours after getting it done.
    2.  Most artists will say to wash the area twice a day with antibacterial soap, which is fine, however I prefer an all natural soap with no chemicals such as Tom's Lavender Soap.
    3.  Apply A&D ointment 3 times a day for 5 days then use Lubriderm lotion for up to 10 days following. (tattoos tend to heal in about 10 days).  Healing time will improve if you don't smoke (smoking shrinks the blood vessels decreasing blood flow and oxygen which is necessary for healing) and taking zinc will also speed healing of any "scar".
It's important to remember to always apply a high SPF (like 55) to the tatto whenever in the sun as this will stop your tattoo from fading and keep it as vibrant as the day you got it!!
    Until next time...........................
